This is kind of cool. While out running some errands on August 18 I noticed that the moon was orange and full or nearly full still. I originally thought this was a Harvest Moon, as did my mom, but after some research I realize it was too early for the Harvest Moon (September) by one month. This is actually called the (Green) Corn Moon, Grain Moon or the Sturgeon Moon. I also found that the color doesn’t really mean anything. It is orange because of the proximity of moon to the sun in the sky and it is reflecting sunlight from the opposite hemisphere.
